When modelling a business case, users must be able to specify input parameters flexibly. In Lean-Case, we use Data Groups to provide maximum flexibility for entering assumptions.

Data Groups are sets of input data that are logically bound to an input paratmeter. There are two major types of data groups
  • the Data Series Group combines an input field with a Table Icon  to enter varying values for a data series.
  • the Data Edit Group combines three input fields (one of which being a Data Serie Group) with an Edit-Mode Switch    for automatic and manual editing.
Via the  Table Icon   , you activate the Data Capture Widget to create, flexibly edit or upload a series of values.

Data Series Group

The Data Series Group combines an input field with a Table Icon   to enter varying values for a data series.

You have two options:

  • enter a constant value for the input parameter into the field (e.g. a constant growth rate of 1%)
  • enter varying values for all time periods of the input parameter by clicking the Table Icon    to access the Data Capture Widget.
After varying values have been entered, the input field shows a small chart of the data series. The example below shows that the value of the data series decreases over time in a step-wise function.

Data Edit Group

The Data Edit Group combines three input fields (one of which being a Data Series Group) with an Edit-Mode Switch

The Edit-Mode Switch can be set to

  •  Automatic Data Entry and
  •   Manual Data Entry

A Data Edit Group allows to enter values in four different ways:

  1. Enter a constant value for the entire time period
  2. Enter a constant value with a constant growth rate per period
  3. Enter a constant value with varying growth rate
  4. Enter varying values for the entire time period
The table below provides examples:

Input Mode   Data Example    Example

1. Constant amount for entire time period (Edit-Mode Switch set to Automatic)

A Monthy Sales Volume of 100 units

2. Constant amount with a constant growth rate (Edit-Mode Switch set to Automatic)

A Sales Volume of 100 units
growing 10%
monthly

3. Constant amount with varying growth rate (Edit-Mode Switch set to Automatic)

A Sales Volume of 100 units
growing at a declint rate
(click the Table Icon to see exact growth rates)

4.Varying amounts for the entire time period (Edit-Mode Switch set to Manual)

A Sales Volume growing periodically to a Maximum of 300 units (Click the Table Icon to see the exact Sales Volume per month)
